Prop 65 Warning
Use of certain tableware for sale
in this store will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the
State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive
harm. Patterns identified with this symbol on the box are the
ones for which this warning is given.
1. Why the warning label?
The information labels are now required under California's voter-initiated
Proposition 65, passed in 1986, because the State of California
has determined that a substance that may cause health problems
can be found in Tabletop items made from ceramic, glass, and metal.
2. Which products does it
affect?
The information labels are required in California on certain ceramic
dish sets, glassware, salt shakers and flatware used in contact
with food. It may also occur in Coca-Cola glass bottles. The labels
are not required on any products sold outside of California.
3. Are these products legal
to sell?
Products for which warnings are required may be sold legally because
they fully comply with the US FDA Standards for Lead. They require
a warning because they exceed the stricter lead exposure standards
of Prop 65 in California.
4. Isn't lead a naturally
occurring substance?
Yes lead occurs in soil, clay, sand and earth naturally at levels
above those specified by Prop 65 warning requirements,
thus it may become a part of any ceramic, glass, or metal product.
It may also occur naturally in dyes and paints derived from soil
containing lead.
