Antique Danish Metal Cradle Desk Phone with Rotary Dial circa 1920
From the 1920s this desk phone is generally known as the D08 made by the Danish company, Kjobenhavns Telefon Aktieselskab. With a metal cradle holding the wooden handle with push button alternator to signal the exchange and Bakelite ear and mouthpiece, it has a classic metal bell and rotary dial over porcelain numbers. The metal case is a classic design widely copied by European phones into the 1920s. It was made in a CB version in black painted metal with a counter to indicate the number of minutes used. Cloth cords and plastic end (rewired in 1970s) are a bit frayed. It is in excellent condition with a cracked (but intact) Bakelite earpiece. This antique desk telephone first made in 1906 makes a wonderful decorator piece for home or office. It measures 8 1/2 inches high and the metal base is 7 inches x 6 inches and it weighs almost 10 lbs.
