Indian Hand Carved Soap Stone Elephant with Trunk Up and Baby Figurine
This intricately hand-carved elephant has another carved inside with great detail. The mother elephant figurine has been handmade in traditional Indian jali work or openwork carving (intricate latticework having a pattern of openings). The inner baby elephant is a solid stone sculpture. This pachyderm looks is quite unusual as it has a distinctive pink cast and the trunk is up (majority are down). It is carved from a single block of stone with great care as a wrong hit will ruin the entire piece. Each is a work of art that is unique. Carved in Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal in India and hand selected. This beautifully detailed elephant is 3.75 long x 2 wide x 3 tall.
